馬英九總統今（8）日表示，當年他擔任台北市長時，曾經在國家戲劇院看到女廁所外大排長龍，當時女性觀眾對他大喊：「市長，快要開演了怎麼辦？」他回答可以使用男廁，還說「別擔心，我來把風」，而且他真的就守在男廁外避免有男性闖入，藉此故事強調，女性權益應該獲得照顧。

馬英九今天上午出席衛生福利部辦的民國103年國際婦女節會議，他說，在「把守男廁」事件後不久，他就要求兩廳院把男女廁比例改為1比3，後來中央也修改建築法規，將男女廁比例改為1比5，解決公共場所女廁不夠用的問題。

馬總統指出，以育嬰津貼、育嬰假來說，已有21萬人受惠，領到197億元津貼，還有最近婦女參動參與論超過5成，女性薪資提高到男性的8成，青年壯年婦女的教育程度更已經直追男性。

馬總統強調，中華民國台灣雖然不是聯合國會員，但從聯合國開發計畫署的性別不平等指數(GII) 來看，台灣在149個參與評比的國家中，僅次於荷蘭，排名世界第2，僅次於荷蘭，在婦女權益法律部分，都以國內法方式比照國際。
